다른화가의 작품을 연상시키거나
혹은 직접 차용하는 창작방식을
강박적으로 사용하는 경향이 있었어요.
세잔Cézanne, 레제Fernand Léger,
마티스Henri Matisse, 몬드리안 Piet Mondrian,
가츠시카 호쿠사이 Katsushika Hokusai등

피카소가 Dora Maar 도라 마르
(Pablo Picasso's lover and muse)를
입체주의 경향이 짙게 표현한 작품이예요.
(Picasso작품설명은 최대한 짧게 할께요:)
거장의 작품을 개작 한다는 것은
특정회화를 차용하려는 시도이거나,
피카소처럼 대중적인 경우는 작품보다 인물의
유명세에 기대려는 의도가 있을수도 있고,
혹은 순전히 존경의 표현이거나,
화가마다 다양한 이유가 있겠죠.
리히텐슈타인은 미술관을 다니며
원화를 보는것을 좋아하지 않고
주로 복제화를 붙여놓고 작업했어요.

parodied I actually admire."
라고 언급한적이 있긴 하지만)
엽서나 달력등으로 재생산되고 상품화되면서
작품의 미술사적 의미가 희석되었더라도,
상품포장지와 유명화가가 그린 원작의
가치를 크게 달리보지 않았어요.
그는 모방할때 작품양식의 유사성을
강조한것으로 보아, 특정작품보다는
특정양식에 관심을 기울였으며,
가치있는 작품일수록
반어적 접근과 냉소적인 표현이
더욱 효과적임을 간파한듯 해요.
Lichtenstein worked by creating
a small-scale line-drawing
based on the Picasso reproduction.
He then projected the drawing
onto the canvas, using the projected
outline-drawing as a template.
복제화 자체가 아니라, 손수 작고 거칠게
재현한 선화(線畵)를 투영시켰으며,
( "the most thoroughly documented
of his variations after Picasso" )
얼굴은 분홍(pink dots), 머리카락은 노랑등
평범하고 관습적인 색상을 피함으로써,
고의적으로 조악하게 만든
모조임을 드러내고 있어요.

한동안 소장하고 있었어요.
