Expressionism is an artistic style
in which the artist attempts to depict
not objective reality but rather the
subjective emotions and responses
that objects and events arouse in him.
He accomplishes his aim through distortion,
exaggeration, primitivism, and fantasy and
through the vivid, jarring, violent, or
dynamic application of formal elements.
● 표현주의의 어원에 대해 여러 설이 있어요.
1) 화가 쥘리앵 오귀스트 에르베(1825-1892)가
● 암튼 표현주의라는 용어는
화가/비평가/중개상이 사용하면서 출현한 이래
학자들이 관련 논문을 통해 정확한
정의를 내리려는 시도도 많았지만,
화가자신들이 그 범주속에 귀속되려는 의지도
약했거니와 다른 사조와 중첩되면서
점차 불분명하고 모호한 경향이 짙어져
간단히 정의내리기가 힘드네요 ^^;

in part because it "overlapped with other
major 'isms' of the modernist period: with
Futurism, Vorticism, Cubism, Surrealism and Dada."
다만 굳이 다른 사조와 구분짓는다면,
(시인, 화가, 음악가, 철학가를 포함한)
새로운 변화를 갈망하던 혈기 왕성한
젊은 예술가들의 광기어린 열정과,
간혹 낯설고 소름끼치지만
거부할수 없는 신비와 아름다움이
작품 곳곳에 베어있어요~
